Tussmørke / Twilight
May-June 2025
Solo exhibition
Anno Museum, Hamar, Norway
Curated by Alvi Östgård
Created and painted solely with natural materials, most of which are harvested from the Norwegian woods. Through old yarn coloring methods, the artist has boiled the leaves and needles down with alun and painted with a watercolour like technique. Every canvas is prepared with marble dust and rabbit glue, to ensure that the entire process and artwork is 100% natural. The marble dust also gives the paintings a sparkling finish if one steps close to the paintings.
PROLOG
When you step between the old timber walls, you let the paths of reality fade behind you.
You enter a world where mist hangs low over ancient bogs, where the raven's cry foretells unseen events, and where the trees whisper stories older than humankind itself. Dawn trembles in the air, and you are drawn into a sensory journey into the deep spirit of the Norse landscape – an exhibition that weaves together mysticism, nature, folklore, and Norse mythology, tinted with the fragile and living pigments of plants themselves.
Each painting and textile surface bears traces of a forgotten world – an echo from dark forests where spirits guard their hidden trails, and the water spirit’s violin echoes through the river beneath you. Here, the shadows of old gods meet the whispering voices of folk belief. The artist has drawn colors from the earth itself: flowers, charcoal, snow, needles, and leaves – boiled down and applied to cotton and linen with care. These natural hues – muted earth tones, blood-blue berry stains – are reminders of an ancient heritage we have been given as a gift, and which, in turn, we will pass on with reverence.
You are invited to listen with your eyes, and see with your heart. To feel the strange pull from the depths of primeval time, and let yourself be enveloped by a world where reality and myth are not opposites, but threads in the same tapestry. Perhaps you will see beings you’ve never seen before.
Perhaps, in this very moment, you are being measured by the underworld – and hear a whisper through the rumble of the thunder god.
Perhaps you will feel only the silence – and in it, an ancient knowing.
Welcome into the enchanted.
Welcome into the myth.
Step into the twilight.
